Letters: |
Capt. Charles Edwin Adams Bartlett, seen at left, married Harriet Maria Cooper on Sept 6, 1862 just one week after mustering into Company K of the 6th Regiment, where he served in the Nine Months Campaign. His son Charles Edward Bartlett, born April 19, 1868, became the first president of the Chelmsford Historical Society. Charles and William F. Wood recruited men for Company K in the towns of Billerica, Chelmsford, Dracut, Tewksbury and Tyngsboro. This is an actual Recruitment Broadside published by Bartlett and Wood. Members of Company K were commissioned on August 30, 1862 and mustered in on August 31, 1862. See the Company K Roster here. They were mustered out on June 3, 1863 after which Company K was disbanded. See the actual Discharge Document for Charles S. Reed. During their time in the War they were encamped in Suffolk Virginia. See the Camp Suffolk Layout here, with legends explaining the function of each area. |
